Rui (Ray) Hu is a physical therapist and President of Collective Therapy. With over 16 years of clinical experience, his expertise spans a broad spectrum of patient populations, from pediatrics to geriatrics, and encompasses diverse settings including acute care, rehabilitation, and outpatient services. Rui holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology and a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy.
Rui’s passion for rehabilitation was sparked during his college years. Initially pursuing a path in computer science, he experienced a personal transformation by adopting a healthier, more active lifestyle. Instead of gaining the typical “Freshman 15,” Rui lost 50 pounds through strength training, dietary changes, and aerobic exercise. This personal journey ignited his fascination with human physiology, leading him to shift his focus to helping others achieve their health goals through physical therapy.
After several years of practicing, Rui recognized the challenges and limitations within traditional, revenue-driven healthcare models. He saw firsthand how the push for increased patient volume and reduced critical thinking time could lead to compromised clinical decisions, slower patient progress, and higher costs of care. Determined to create a better way, Rui co-founded Collective Therapy, prioritizing patient outcomes and clinical excellence over profits.
Outside of work, Rui enjoys spending time with his wife and their daughter working on various home improvement projects, attending local events, and traveling to the beach.
He remains committed to his fitness routine, incorporating barbell, bodyweight, and circuit training. In addition to continued physical development, Rui enjoys furthering his knowledge and expertise in other fields such as technology, financial management, and general business administration, further enhancing his ability to effectively lead Collective Therapy.
"Collective Therapy is a practice where the well-being and quality of life for patients and staff are the highest priority. I hope we can disrupt the traditional 'productivity & profitability' business model that is rampant throughout our field. We will strive to deliver the most effective and ethical care in a positive, sustainable business environment."
